Week of January 13th, 2014

Letter of the Week:

This week we will be working on the letter Rr.

Star Words:

they
went

The star words and the letter person worksheet will be sent home on Monday in your child's red folder.

Writing

We have learned:

  1.  How to put finger spaces in between our words
  2. Spell star words correctly
  3. Start our sentences with a capital letter
  4. Stretch out unknown words and write down all of the sounds that we can hear
  5. We also learned how to put a stopping point (period, question mark or exclamation mark) at the end of our sentences

It is encouraged to practice reading and writing star words at home as much as possible! If you need star words to be printed out I will be more than happy to get them to you as soon as possible. Just send a note to school with your child and I will send them home within a few days. J

Native Americans

This past week we started learning about the Sioux tribes.  Sioux tribes included Lakota Sioux, Dakota Sioux, and Standing Rock Sioux, among others. We are learning primarily about the Lakota Sioux people of the Great Plains.
Here are some things that we learned about the Lakota Sioux:

  1. The Lakota Sioux lived in the Great Plains region
  2. Plains are flat areas of land with very few trees
  3. Buffalo were hunted
  4. Lakota Sioux never hunted more than what they needed and every part of the Buffalo was used
  5. They lived in tipis
Each day we have been documenting what we have learned with illustrations and captions. Stay tuned… I will try to post pictures towards the end of the week!

Thank you for taking the time to visit our blog and have a wonderful week!
