September Newsletter

September

Welcome to Kindergarten!
We are so excited to be part of your learning journey this year.

In September, we establish our classroom rules and routines. We learn how to raise our hands when we have a question or an answer, practice waiting our turn & sharing with our friends. We also make new friends and learn how to work together. All of the students are making us so proud!

In K2 we have jumped into learning! We have learned about  Mr M. With a munching mouth, Ms. T with her tall teeth, and Ms. F and her funny feet. The star words we have learned so far are: me, I, a, to, see & the. To practice with your children, go on a letter/word hunt while driving, at the supermarket, or through a recipe while you are cooking.

In math, we are counting to 10 and identifying numbers of objects. We are also patterning and sorting objects into categories.   To practice, have your child count how many steps it takes to get from room to room, count how many red cars you pass in the parking lot, or how many signs you pass on the road.

In skills, we are learning how to copy basic lines and shapes. The first few lessons we will encounter focus on important pre-writing skills that will benefit our handwriting when we start writing our letters. So far horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines have been taught. We have also practiced making a circle by starting at the  top and going to the left.

In listening and speaking we have been talking about our five senses and why they are important. Ask your child what happens to their pupil when it is bright outside! On Thursday, we had a taste test with items that were sour, bitter, sweet and salty. We also smelled a few scents and tried to guess what they were, just based on their smell. All of our senses communicate with our brain and we have discussed how important our brain is and how amazing our senses are!
Our days have been very busy!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
Thank you for all you do!

Best,
Ms. Clay
Mrs. Chernis
